    Default Belmuse HGTM5 Electric Mandolin

Howdy folks - it's been a while since I've posted here, but wanted to share some cool news. I've been partnering with Belmuse Mandolins in the UK over the last year and they just released a new model called the HGTM5.

This one is a modern neck-through design with an obvious nod to the design of my favorite mandolin player's instrument

Here's a YouTube video I put together with all the details if you want to hear what it sounds like:

    Thanks for watching!

Nice, but I'd like the pickup closer to the neck with only 17 frets, more like Tiny's.

    Yeah, that is important.

I've tried a range of locations, and find the Stratocaster positions best, so the neck pickup sits where the middle pickup on Strat is, measuring from the bridge. Treble pickup should be a bit over 1.5" from the center of the bridge, and neck at 3.75".

Other locations work but just sound kind of weird to me. The Belmuse in the video has a pretty sound, but not the one I look for.

I've tried the spot near the 17th fret, but it feels like not quite anything, not a neck sound or a Strat middle tone. The familiar tone of guitar neck pickups is from them sitting about where a 24th fret would be. That would be the 12th fret on a mandolin, so we aren't going to get that tone.

    I dig it.

The location of the truss rod adjustment screw makes it difficult to get the pickup closer. But there's room at the back for a second one!
