Forse "La Canzone del Nome Dimenticato"?
Lovely playing. Un saluto.

Frank, certainly the name is Canzone dell'amore...composed by Bruno Cherubini and Cesare Andrea Bixio, the latter also composed Parlami d'amore, Mariů...
Sure, if I'm wrong, I have other possible answers...

Music washes away from the soul the dust of every-day life. Auerbach.
The rejection of 'the others' is a tragedy of the human being; If it comes from emigrants, an added horror!
The correct title "Canzone dell'Amore" and it often subtitled "Solo Per Te, Lucia". It was composed by C.A. Bixio and was the title song in one of the first Italian talking movies. Matteo & Gino played it (track #12) Do you want sheet music?

That's why we're here at the cafe, Frank, to help each other...not to feed our egos...

Matteo did not read until he was well into his senior years. He realized how much he was missing out on the great mandolin literature. If Matteo can learn to read music in his sixties, anyone can do it. Think about what he was able to do. Play with others, write his own compositions, and become an integral part of the mandolin community.

This is my arrangement for two mandolins and (accordion or guitar chords). It is true to the original vocal score (1927). Listening to someone like Claudio Villa is the BEST way to introduce yourself to Bixio. He trusted Villa to interpret his melodies. I do not wander from the melodic line or improvise a chord where there is none. It is an authentic rendering that I think every mandolinist would enjoy playing. The audio recording is from my Sibelius file.

While you can learn from Casserino's recording, he and I never agreed on much as I insisted on playing the harmonic scheme that supports Bixio's melody. Villa's recordings is highly nuanced but it is, in my estimation, the only way to play this heart wrenching melody. Hope you enjoy it!

"mandolin ballo liscio" playlist of 13 titles learned from Matteo and from Tony Flores
This above link goes to my friend (videographer) Ralph Muscatell. He's gone now but preserved a little slice of this dance genre in his "mandolin ballo liscio" playlist.
"Mattinata di Matteo" did a CD recording of several of these titles back around 2008. We were pretty active playing at the Trieste and the link I provide here was when we performed at Petaluma's "Accordion Club of the Redwoods." There's a heavy sprinkling of the Spanish dance tradition because not only did we enjoy playing from Casserino's favorites but Tony Flores (also Sicilian-born mandolinist) who settled in the bay area and played with the original Aurora Mandolin Orchestra in San Francisco) left us with his favorite Spanish titles which he recorded on CD with Billy Packard. I think you'll come away with a nice California version of how Italian ballo liscio merged with the already existing Spanish culture.
Here's what's on Ralph's ballo liscio playlist:
1. Araby March (actually it's played by many as a paso doble under various titles--French & Spanish)
2. Chitiva Tango
3. Danza Espagna (paso doble)
4. Dengozo tango
5. El Zopilote (Mexican polka)
6. Julia (Mexican waltz)
7. Il Portovoce waltz (Silvestri)
8. Lamento Gitano (aka Borincano) Andrini arrangement
9. Mio Dolce Sogno (Vicari's waltz)
10. Passei Per Espana (paso doble)
11. Speranze Perdute (Morelli's waltz)
12. Tenebre Infinita (Lawrence Andrini's rumba dedicated to his brother Frank)
13. Ziki-Paki, Ziki Bu (two-step) march style
Enjoy! Sheri
