Very Nice! Hadn't looked much into Pomeroy Mandolins but this sent me deep down a rabbit hole listening to sound samples and looking at photos on his website. Moved right up to the top of my list for a first custom build when I can afford one down the road.
Good sounding mandolin, a keeper I'd say.
What a beauty and sounds lovely as well!

Thanks for not being distracted by my mediocre playing. It IS sweet and loud. It is essentially an A-2 copy, except for Don’s own X-bracing. And the color, I guess, which I chose from his palette. I’m so happy!
Also, I have no idea what Don’s waiting list is like. When I contacted him, this one was in the white. (I was actually looking at getting a mandola. I still am, actually!)
Looks and sounds lovely. What is the wood combo on this one? I check Don's site regularly, he does a good job of showing recently completed and currently available models. I kind of got turned on to Pomeroys by virtue of someone posting here on the Cafe of a walnut back and sides oval hole and since then I've been sorely tempted to get one of his mandolins. Seems to me you get that old Gibson sound with modern playability.
Rob
Don harvests his own Engelmann Spruce in Colorado. (You probably knew that…). The back and sides are maple, not sure which variety.
I think you hit it right on the head with the sound. Most modern As use the elevated fretboard and longer neck. I owned a Collings MTO and it was a fine mandolin, but I missed that old Gibson sound. This instrument is closer to the old Gibsons, but has X-bracing. Only a few luthiers make that combination. Lucky for me, because it is exactly the sound I was looking for.
Looks and sounds wonderful!

I hadn’t heard of Pomeroy until I came across an f-hole two-point at Gruhns a couple years ago. It was really impressive for the price, with a nice fat bottom end and good volume. Kinda wish I’d bought it now.
Pomeroy mandolins are some of the most under-valued instruments out there. I have F5 #39 from 2003, it is unbelievably killer in looks, tone, volume and playability. It is fully equal to any Kimble, Collings, Weber and Northfield that I have owned/played. Highly recommended. Plus Don Paine is a super nice guy!

Congrats! I have oval #264, so I know how happy you are. Don's such an easy guy to work with and he nails the tone you ask for.

Wow, it sounds great! I have Pomeroy #274 with walnut back and sides, red spruce top. What can I say? It is perfect. One of the best purchases I have ever made. I am curious - what strings did he put on yours? The tone is wonderful.
It came strung with D’Addario XS. They are great so far!
Congrats on that beauty!
Nice!
Play it in good health!!

These are great mandolins. I always wondered why they didn't generate more interest. Here is my F4 #64 from 05'. Funny thing, I found it really found it's voice with lighter gauge strings.[ATTACH=CONFIG]200053[/
Mike, I just have to say again, that Pomeroy Oval is a very appealing instrument! I keep coming back to your post. That is such an attractive and inviting mandolin. I can imagine really enjoying playing it. Pomeroy is an excellent builder and I have heard great things about his oval versions.
I played a Pomeroy oval atThe Guitar Works in Evanston day before yesterday and now I’m fixated. I’ll have to save-up over the next year or so, but the Pomeroy was the most lovely looking and playing mandolin I’ve ever come across (albeit in my limited experience). I’m in no position to order at the moment and it looks like he has mandolins posted for sale from time to time, but anyone know Don’s wait time? I wouldn’t want to bother him until I’m in a position to order
Ed
Don told me he received four orders since I posted mine. I ordered a mandola, as well. He did not give me any dates, and I know that he is traveling right now. Send him an email.
