    Default A new mandocello

Harkening back to the days when giant mandolins roamed the earth, a new mandocello, built to try out some ideas before the start of the mandolin quartet project. This one has a carved European spruce soundboard, Otways blackwood for the body, with a fully carved back with tortoise celluloid binding. 25.5"/65cm scale neck made from Fijian grown mahogany with a Solomons Islands ebony fingerboard, 50mm/2"wide at the nut and joining the body at the 16th fret. Two way truss-rod from Allied Lutherie. The body is 14.5"/36cm wide and 3.75"/95mm deep at the tail. Stringing is .020", .034", .045", .062". Big growling sound and responsive to the touch.

Beautiful, and a very interesting list of woods used. Are these typical in Australian luthier shops?
    We'd love to hear it....

Another beautiful instrument from every angle. It would be neat to hear it played.
