Many years ago we had an A style Kay built mandolin with that headstock show up with a Harmony label. I assume that when they needed to fill an order and they didn't have time to make them they simply bought from each other. The only other answer is that somebody really liked the Regal label and put one on their Kay.

I saw an ad recently for an unbranded KayKraft instrument, listed as a "Regal mandolin." I was tempted to point and laugh, but given that instruments like this one do exist, I guess that ad was just an honest mistake.

FWIW, there is an eBay seller who sells that particular Regal decal for "restorations." I, myself, am guilty of putting the wrong decal on an instrument simply because nobody likes a no name instrument.....believe it or not, having a name on the peghead makes it easier to sell -- right or wrong.....obviously try to get one that is believable and era-appropriate. IMHO, putting a Regal decal on a Kay is not a high crime. Putting a Fender decal on a parts guitar IS wrong, that is, if you are trying to deceive when selling it. Then again, most buyers are pretty savvy these days....40 years ago, not so much.http://www.ebay.com/itm/123719946535
