Default Gibson A2Z - new family member

I was fortunate to find this one at a local guitar shop recently. I was picking up a couple of empty guitar boxes from my friend and manager of the store. I spotted the case and inquired about it. I was surprised to see a snakehead, fully expecting it to be a paddle head. This one sounds and plays great. I've owned some good old Gibsons' before but this one tops them.

Looks great! The back has more figure than a lot of the birch ones I have seen, including mine. Do you think it could be maple?

It does look like it could be maple but I'm told that birch can have a lot of figure as well. The sides are plain, so I'm not sure.
