Default Flat top mandolin by Edward Maday

i'm a bass player, and my bass was made by ed in 2020.

I was so in love with my bass i ordered a flat top mandolin from him. i'm not claiming to be much of a mandolin player, but i love this little thing so much. it is currently strung with thomastik flatwound strings. I use it often for little arrangements where i need a treble clef register and a bass just can't do it.

here's a recent video using it to replace part of a piano part:

    and again:

    and more bach:

as you can see, i use it a lot. i just love how unique it sounds. at one point i considered a archted top, or F style mandlin, but i really see no need. very different voice, but i like this one just how it is.

    just felt like sharing.

Sounds to me like very fine playing on all four instruments in the videos. Good music and good arrangements too, and a nice mandolin sound. (I'm another flat-top man.)

Thanks for posting! I hope we'll be hearing more from you.

Ed is an exceptional double bass builder; I'm sure the same level of craft and care went into your mandolin.

Did he also build your viola de gamba?
