Default Monroe Mandolin Camp Abington VA

I am considering attending the Monroe Mandolin camp in Abington VA in late September and am wondering if anyone who has attended in the past would feel like commenting on the camp. I would also be interested to know if any other MC members are thinking about going. I called the hotel listed for the camp and they said so far no one has made reservations.

Thanks in advance for any responses.

Richard, I went in 2019 and in 2021. It's an extremely well-run and organized camp, full of friendly campers and instructors. There's always some amazing bonus presentations--last year it was Norman and Nancy Blake. This year it's Doyle Lawson and Butch Robbins and who knows what else they will come up with. The instructors teach every period and it's hard to decide what to take because every class is amazing. There's jams led by instructors and lots of small jams in the evenings. You can find some people who will be really fun to jam with. The instructor concert is always stellar. You'll find a really great group of people and have a ton of fun. I recommend it. And the pig roast is as good as you'll find anywhere.

Absolutely loved this camp. I learned the most I have ever learned at a camp. I think it's especially good for advanced players. I keep dreaming of making it back some day...it's a tough fit for my work schedule. I would go every year if I could.

Best camp ever. I've gone 7 years in a row, and going back this year. Great atmosphere, well organized. Wonderful people.
There are already 32 people on the private facebook page. Heidi makes the hotel reservations so we get the group discount. Maybe they are listed different than how you asked.
Coming from Colorado, Abington is hard to get to, but I wouldn't miss it.

While I play mandolin I go to the fiddle classes and so far they have been excellent. Heidi runs an excellent camp.it is well organized and runs smoothly. I have been to several camps now and I am pleased to have done so. R/
    I love hanging out with mandolin nerds . . . . . Thanks peeps ...

So many instructors, so many different styles of teaching. You are bound to find several instructors that you'll return to repeatedly. And with so many classes you'll have ample opportunity to work with all of them. For me, it's the only time I focus on a technique or song for a solid hour, it's the structure I don't have when I'm at home. All three years I've attended (and the 2020 online year) have been wonderful.

I attended in 2021 for the first time. I really enjoyed it and would like to get back. Currently trying to see how it fits into my schedule.

    If your thing is Monroe-style mandolin, it's a no-brainer.

I don't know how far Abingdon is from you, but they do offer 1 day passes this year. The Stanley Brothers could take over Monroe Camp at least for a day.
