There just aren't a whole lot of options, especially in that price range.

if you are not happy with the Eastwood Airline, you can look for a vintage Kingston, Kent, or Bruno; these were made in Japan in the 1960s and although they were sold as mandolins, they have about a 16" scale length and work better as mandolas.

I have a Flight Pathfinder, which is finally playable after modding the snot out of it (I knew it would need it, and like to mod).

Check out the Risa solidbodies; they seem to be well done and well considered.

Thanks! Although i am quite happy with the Eastwood. Would prefer a wider nut, and still need a more serious setup.
But in the occasion that i would have to return it , i was wondering of others.

Good one! I've had 4 or 5 Risa instruments through my hands including a couple of the mandolas. They are not easy to find but they work pretty well and they're in the right price range. They may not be entirely solid; I think at least some of them are semi-hollow.

If it is a C string you need, 5-string mandos are more useful than mandola, with easy reaches and richer chords. Mandola scale length is much longer than a viola, and I consider them only marginally playable. American mandolin is almost viola scale (14.25-14.5") already.
