Thread: Tonewood supplier - octave

    Default Tonewood supplier - octave

I always bought my spruce from Orcas Island, but Bruce retired, and now I'm feeling the need to build myself an octave mandolin. I'm not seeing a lot of spruce out there in the size range for an octave archtop (Probably guitar shaped, about 21" scale). Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Magnus

Steven Anderson has listed a number of arch top guitar size tops in the classifieds. A lutz spruce one here; https://www.mandolincafe.com/ads/186438#186438

The Hampton Brothers in east Tennessee have probably the best supply of spruce in the country and they are great folks to do business with.

I'm building an octave mandolin with a really nice set of red spruce from Old Standard Wood.
