Default crooked endpin hole on Eastman 505

    Hi everyone,

I just got a used MD505 from Guitar Center via shipping When I opened the case, I noticed a few shavings and I heard light rattling. As I shook it again, more shavings and a small sliver of ebony came out into the case. No more rattling. Then I noticed the end pin is quite crooked.
I managed to take it out and can see the hole is not totally drilled through. Is that a common thing? As can see, the tailpiece has some kind of gunk on it, like glue. The rest of the mandolin is in good shape.
I know its hard to determine with these limited pictures and wanted your thoughts before I have someone look at it.
    Thanks,
    Nick in Houston

Pretty bad looking ending hole. I can't tell if it's tapered. If you can get a pin to stay in it I guess it's OK. Not sure about the shavings or the gunk ont the tailpiece.

Thanks! I took the tailpiece off to make sure someone did not drill new holes. It was original. I am assuming that gunk is glue. Everything else is good.

As David says, if the endpin stays in I wouldn't worry about it. I am thinking they added glue to keep it in, in which case I would plug the hole and redrill it.
