Joe Campanella Cleary brings his innovative, violin-style construction to the oval-hole format, and the results are absolutely superb. Though this mandolin hails from New England and is only ten years old, the vibe is late-17th-century Cremona all the way. As with all his instruments, Cleary manages to coax a unique, woody, dulcet tone from this A440. Fundamental frequencies are big, with very little metal in the sound, yet the mandolin manages to maintain very good string separation and clarity. This A440 is a very enjoyable, easy mandolin to play, and is sure to delight the Celtic, classical, or old-time player who privileges round, full single notes and sustain over brighter cut and bluegrass chop.

This mandolin, a 2011 build, comes to us used. The thin varnish finish has settled and shows a few superficial scratches and pitting, light signs of having been in the world for a decade. Otherwise in very good overall condition, it is ready for the next seisun.
