Looking at buying some type of stage fan to help in this summer heat.
Anyone got insights or a favorite brand ?

Ceiling fans are all right. Some fans make too much noise.
Maybe try this. Wear it on your neck.

One fan for the entire group? This from the customer questions & comments:
"... My husband was a drummer and used it at shows. The bass player had one as well."
Just guessing that it might work best if placed far enough away to not be picked up by mics, maybe 15-20'?
(Totally aside: I've been tracking down a hidden water leak, and will probably need similar real soon!)
Edit, REALLY aside:
Now I'm humming the Grateful Dead's "Bertha", inspired by a Big Bertha pedestal fan that would walk/vibrate it's way around their business office:
I had to move
Really had to move
That's why if you please
I am on my bended knees
Bertha don't you come around here anymore

Adoring ones waving the LP to move the air?
Aren't those bladeless Dyson ring fans supposed to be quiet?

Listen to a fan long enough and I start hearing tunes in it.
Reminds me of the late Bill Staines's anecdote about the Texas coffeehouse where he had to tune to the pervasive drone from the air conditioner.
Seems to me the fans that would be powerful enough to be effective, would have to be located pretty far away from the mics. You don't want to have to use a windscreen to block out the effects of your own climate control.
A fan that would be effective "15-20 feet away" would have to be quite muscular.

“ Adoring ones waving the LP to move the air?”
They are usually called….fans.
We gave up on the condenser mic so noise is a consideration but not as critical with our cheap dynamics.
Another Good point- I dont think one fan is going to cool the band but as long as its blowing on me Im ok with that. They can get their own.
A band mate just got the one I posted above so we'll see.
Great idea to check out the wierd tyson fan. This might be one place that extra expense makes sense. I'm guessing it woulsd have to be pretty close though and I have a bunch of clutter around me already (I switch instruments between songs and have pedals and work the EQ off a lap top...its already hard to take a step).
The fan would be mostly for outdoor bar gigs where there's a fair amount of background noise anyway.

Be careful with ceiling fans. The rotating blade is a sound-reflecting surface; as the blade angle changes in relation to you and your instruments, the resulting on/off echo pulsation can drive you nuts. Other types fan with faster rotation may not be as bothersome. -- Paul
He joyously felt himself idling, an unreflective mood in which water was water, sky was sky, breeze was breeze. He knew it couldn't last. -- Thomas McGuane, "Nothing but Blue Skies"
I saw Jr Brown at the Neighborbood Theatre in the NoDa area of Charlotte. It has a large ceiling fan, and it didn’t seem to bother him the night we saw him, but another audience member said he’s seen him refuse to play until they shut that fan off in the past, because of that reverb/“womp womp” effect.
I thought the mandolin player’s right arm was supporsed to move fast enough to cool the band, so you really only need a fan for yourself
Props to you for playing outside around Chucktown in the summer, Astro! We’ll be on IOP the first week of August and I’ll bring instruments, but most likely leave them to house/porch picking. It can get pretty brutal down there, even if you’re “used to it.”
Chuck
Fans tend to knock instruments out of tune if you are directly in the breeze. Potentially a lot of re-tuning while you play.
We will play at The Dingy on IOP 7/22/22 from 330-630 on the outdoor stage. It does have a roof and some fans on that stage. With the ocean breeze the heat index will prob be cooled down to about 100. Planning to jump in the ocean between sets. Detunning from fans is the least of the tuning problems. Detunning from passing out is the bigger concern at this gig.
