A friend of mine has a problem with the preamp on his Godin A8.
He contacted their suppliers, and they said that the A8 was discontinued and they have no more spare parts for it
I am flabbergasted!
Anybody heard of this?

It definitely has been discontinued. I have a Godin A8, and checked this out a couple of months back. I don't know about parts though. It's disappointing as it's a fine instrument. There have been discussions on the Forum about mandolins from other guitar companies being discontinued as a result of co-vid, staff shortages, and related economic problems. Mandolins don't sell like guitars, it seems. Perhaps a good luthier working with electronic instruments could install another kind of preamp. I'm not knowledgable about such matters, so if that's a stupid comment, forgive me.
Robert Johnson's mother, describing blues musicians:
"I never did have no trouble with him until he got big enough to be round with bigger boys and off from home. Then he used to follow all these harp blowers, mandoleen (sic) and guitar players."
Lomax, Alan, The Land where The Blues Began, NY: Pantheon, 1993, p.14.
Looks like the Seagull mandolin is still listed, so maybe that's enough of the mandolin market for Godin. Every company is scaling back to focus on core models it seems.
RMC pickups of Berkeley Cal is who made their electric parts..

I talked to a Godin dealer and he was pretty discouraged with what the kids are doing with their dad's company. Hope you can find what you need.
