Default GHS Silt & Steel vs Pure Nickel

What would be the difference in tone/volume between the GHS Silk and Steel vs the GHS Pure Nickel.

I have found the "Silt & Steel" strings can sound a little gritty.

    Charlie,

Please describe what you mean by "gritty."

The silk and steel would be a lot quieter and softer, especially on the wound strings. I love the Pure Nickel strings and use both gauges on different mandolins. They sound great, for my taste, and last a long time.

Sorry, poor attempt at humor. Your title says "Silt" as in fine sand sediment on a river bottom instead of "Silk".

Question Re: GHS Silt & Steel vs Pure Nickel

LS 250 is wound with silver coated copper.

[same winding wire as on E A D, 3 lowest pitch on classical guitar]

Nickel lasts longer for me in hot humid weather. I use them on guitar and have on mandolin. They seem to take the extra dirt of a wet clime a little better and have a strong fundamental tone. Try them. The Silk and " " strings are softer and perhaps not quite as loud.
