Default Irish or Italian? Does pick direction matter?

Here’s an Italian tune played a bit differently in different parts of Italy.
I’ve included notation and TAB to show various pick direction options.

So, what do you think? Is staccato down-picking the real McCoy?

    Cool tune thanks

I don't know right from wrong, but for what it's worth I would slide the g - g# and alternate pick the run down.

    Wot no catchphrase?

    Thanks, with the first measure:
    |vf/2uf/2 vfugv^g|a
I’d try to keep the first two notes separate from the following three notes.
That is, I’d slide from the second f to the g in order to keep that group separation.

OR, I’ll play guitar style for the first measure by using the pinkie on the first a of the second measure, and then go back to standard mando fingering.

It’s all personal preference but I wouldn’t alternate the run-down because then I have to use conscious thinking for rhythm, meaning:
'…end of a five note string…am I at the end of the measure?… do I start the next with a down or upstroke?'
For me this causes a slight hiccup in focus and results in a slight rhythm change -a rhythm change that isn’t intended.

I guess if you have good control of beat emphasis no matter if it’s an upbeat or downbeat then no problem.
