    Default Strad-o-lin neo-log-ism

SGW’s flair for description continues with a SOL on the block now described as an A-Frame mandolin. Before you SOL fanciers get too excited, it’s pretty beat, with a pulled/broken neck joint and other unappealing aspects. Not an early one. However, it appears that there is something of a market in these, and it will go high, I think.

That mandolin does indeed have a failed neck joint.

A common problem with Strad-O-Lin's. I have had two (like that) fixed. Was charged less than $50 for each repair. It's an easy fix. If your repairman charges $100, he is overcharging or he is paying New York City rent. The good news... those Poplar necks rarely bow, that is why the neck joints seem to give. Out of 22 SOL's I have only seen one bent neck.

Though I don't think I have ever seen a more worn finish on a SOL. Especially one that came with a case. Good candidate for a refinish.

Finally, that one looks like all solid woods. Not missing any parts. Has original Brazilian Rosewood bridge.

Too much work for me but if you can do the work yourself... worth it... although Good Will auctions almost always go for too much.

Went for $118.00 (plus $2.01 shipping & handling), the tuners, bridge, pick guard and tailpiece are worth more than that.

Did anyone (here on Mandolin Cafe) win the auction?
