Hello,
Has anyone tried to mount only 4 strings on an Eastman El Rey mandolin without modifying nut and bridge ?
Do you think it can sound as a jazz guitar with its humbucker and proper amp setting ?
Thanks

I didn't try it on mine, but I don't see why not.
Thank you Nashville 🙂
Can you obtain from your El Rey a mellow sound similar to a jazz guitar?
I've got the jazz guitar version and the pickup, a Kent Armstrong, is terrible. Great neck for jazz but no pop.
The El Rey mandolin pickups are made by Lollar.
Kent Armstrong makes 2 types of jazz pickups - one version is made for him in Korea and the other he makes at his home shop. I have 1 of each and have no complaints about either. The Korean has a metal case which provides better noise shielding; his home-made version is made of epoxy and sounds stellar but has a tiny bit more noise.
