…with sugar on top?
What’s the name of that track, Tm?
Ah, Little Sadie! I should have known. Some great tone revealed there!
I really like "Cousin Sally Brown" too but the whole album is just pleasure to my ears, really great to jam along too as well

When I first read the title of the post I thought, oh no, not another gizmo to attach to you instrument to enhance the tone. I'm so relieved. This recording, Little Sadie, is the best and I want the whole album.

As someone new to mandolin can you tell which mando player is which? Since Reischman has the A style and Gilchrist the F would it be safe to assume the mellower mando is Reischman and the brighter one Gilchrist?
No, John R. is holding a mandola. His primary mandolin is a Gibson signed Lloyd Loar. There is information if you do a quick search on how he acquired it when he live in the San Francisco Bay area. I believe he has had it since the 80's. He also has a Heiden that was made for him to be close to the Loar. Sharon G. actually plays a Gilchrist. It has a reddish finish which is unusual for a Gilchrist. John plays most of the mandolin tracks on the album and Sharon plays mostly bass. Nice folks, great musicians and I was lucky enough to see them a few years ago.
This has been discussed to death but doubtful most of us could not tell the difference between an A5 and F5 from the same builder in a blind test.
It does not say online who plays what on what track, but it does list Sharon playing Bass and a Gilchrist F5, and lists John's Loar and two different mandolas.
John's playing is generally very "fluid with a lot of slides", Sharon is more of a melodic player I guess.

Re-Revealers! Yes please!
meaning that Sharon hangs closer to the melody of the tune in her improvisation.
The other thing I interpret from John's playing is he uses a lot of close intervals - like 2nds and 3rds back and forth, as opposed to someone like Grisman who often uses wide (octave plus) intervals in solos. Not that John doesn't use wide intervals and not the Grisman doesn't use "narrow" intervals, they just lean that way more to me.
John Reischman also plays very rhythmically in his solos, reminds me of Doc Watson somewhat - although Doc usually stays very close to the melody in improvisation.
