Awesome story, and glad Darren’s the next care taker. He’ll put some honest wear on it, but he knows what he’s got there…

Heart warming story. I love how the owner was set on this mandolin going to a musician and not a collector. It has landed in perfect hands. Cannot wait to hear it and congrats to you Darren!

What a great story. Wonder what he paid for it? Now he has to carve his initials into it. (just kidding )

    Nice instrument.

Wow, Darren! I thought I could play LMW ok until I heard this! He was born to play mandolin!

Unfortunately, word on the internet is that Darren has turned to eating possum.
Is this due to the large expense of acquiring such a fine instrument, or is he just a lover of the taste? Time will tell...

I agree. Thanks for sharing. Great story and amazing how it wasn't sold between him first making contact and then again about 4 years later. I love stories like that or where someone finds such a thing in a junk shop or whatever.

Does anyone know the name of the beautiful instrumental that Darrell plays at the end of the video??

    Lonesome Moonlight Waltz

Lovely instrument but he shouldn't hold it over his belt buckle while he's playing it. The buckle will wreck the back. He should invest 25 bucks in a fleece sweatshirt that will cover the buckle.... no buttons, no zipper, no snaps, no scuffing of the instrument.

    Really great.
Darren tells the story very clearly and evocatively. Seems like it was meant to be.
Lovely playing and a wonderful sound. Good luck to him.

Thanks for identifying Lonesome Moonlight Waltz for me. I have since listened to every rendition of it I can find but no one does it as well as Darren Nicholson, IMO.
