I recently acquired a Lyon and Healy A model, 1920s vintage and would like to put some kind of strap on it. But, there's no strap button on the bottom of the body. Anyone know of a good way to attach that end of a strap to it?
thanks,
Jack

These did not originally have end pins, and there's not a good spot to install one.
However, there is a spot directly below where the edge of the cover fits that you can thread a leather or nylon bootlace through. Tie it to a strap, and you're in business.
Or maybe a screw-type strap button replacing the bottom tailpiece screw?

Please, please don't do this to it.
No end pin. I might be able to put a string underneath the tailpiece.

Yes, I saw that. It's pretty narrow, but I might be able to get something through it.
Post #3. That's the answer. Plenty of room usually to thread a bootlace through.
All my non-end-pin instruments have straps attached to a thin leather thong ("boondoggle" material, as we used to say in Scouts), threaded through the tailpiece, then through the hole in the straps, and secured with a square knot (as we used to make in Scouts).
Drilling an end pin into a vintage instrument is a very bad move, IMHO -- especially when there are viable alternatives.

What about this? I've thought of trying it on my 1920 Martin Style B.
