Welcome to the forum Ginasewell (Gina, I presume?). Sorry you haven’t had responses yet, I haven’t had that surgery. But I would think that consulting with both your physician and your physical therapist would be wise.
Hope you’re back to playing soon!

No, I have not had that specific surgery but I have had two surgeries (hip replacement about 2 years ago and cataract / intraocular lens surgery in the last 3 months) and my advice would be to follow your rehab protocol exactly as directed. Fortunately my outcomes in both cases were great. Your doctor and physical therapist will monitor your progress so listen to what they have to say. When they say its okay to play again take it slow and easy. No pain, no gain doesn't apply. Listen to your body.
And no I'm not any kind of medical worker. Best of luck.
A friend of mine, who is a pretty decent banjo player, had that surgery about ten years ago. They did not know if he would be able to play again but he recovered over about a year and a half and got back up to speed.
