Default Mandolin Chord Series: Enharmonic Chords

    Hey all,

Today I felt like diving in to more chord theory than shapes. The idea for this post is to show how useful specific chord shapes can be - like how a G7 chord voiced 435x could be B diminished (or D, G, F diminished for that matter), or a half diminished etc.

I find these shortcuts useful when playing certain songs and styles - especially jazz tunes.

Matt, the first shape you show there is one of the most used chords in my own playing for 7 chords (rootless) as well as Diminished chords, great, versatile shape to use & a great voicing to my ears

Yup! Plus, it's so close to so many other chords.
+ If you move the D back a fret to C#, you get C#7
+ If you move the D up a fret to D#, you get C#9
+ If you move the B up a fret, you get Dmin7
+ If you move the B back a fret, that's Bb major
+ If you move the F back a fret to E, you get E7
+ If you move the F up a fret to F#, you get B minor

I liked the idea of adding "close chords" where you move one note to create a new chord - so I updated the post to include some examples

I move the D up a fret to D# to get Gaug (G7+) as well

Example, last chord in this list: https://www.mandolincafe.com/forum/t...=1#post1657276
