    Default Ginny Hollon

I was deeply saddened to hear that Ginny Hollon passed away yesterday. As many of you know, she was the publisher of Mandolin Magazine, and she was active in the music community here in Oregon. She was my daughter’s fiddle teacher for the past several years, and her passion for music and education was always inspiring. We’ll miss her!

Ginny was a personal friend and jammed at my Sunday night jams many times. She was a sweet, kind and loving woman and taught fiddle to many, many students. She enthusiastically loved sharing the gift of music. Her sudden and unexpected passing is bringing tears and heavy hearts to many in the music community here in central Oregon and beyond.

May the genuine twinkle in her eyes and her loving smile live on through every musical note…

I am sad to hear about Ginny. I made a lot of use of the Mandolin Magazine over the years. I had issue one except the first one...I told that
to Ginny, and she sent me a copy of the first issue! I really appreciated that.

Oh no. I hadn't talked to her in some time but we had become friends, first through the magazine and then she had contacted me about building her a blue mandolin. I sent her my personal one so she could test drive it. Time went on and we talked. "Can I keep it for another couple weeks? There's a festival coming up." "Sure". It got to where I said "do you know what you want?". "One exactly like this one." I wound up saying "fine. You can buy that one". She did. She named it Elmo, after the children's character. Not long after, a package arrived at the shop and inside was a little stuffed red Elmo. She said it was a gift for my beagle Buster. So it lived in Buster's bed at the shop. Buster passed on about 10-11 years ago but Elmo still resides in that bed at the shop, where my current dog spends some time most days. Ginny, RIP.

Very sorry to hear of her passing. We worked together a lot on Mandolin Magazine. She was a great teacher and advocate.
