An Indian rosewood and redwood Octave mandolin for a chap in Australia.
This is the first time in ages I've made an instrument that didn't have rocklite binding and ebony head veneers. The customer wanted rosewood binding and veneers. And very smart they are too.
This is the last of the highly figured redwood tops I have. I did have a box of them in storage in the US, but they went missing some time ago. Shame. It is makes great instruments. I do have some more redwood tops though, which is less fancy but still very good soundboard material.
I really love the sound of these redwood tops - it is more open sounding than spruce, more complex than cedar and has a brashness to it I really like.
