    Default Gibson H2 Mandola

I have in hand, an old Gibson H2 mandola. The SN appears to be 32495 and the number stamped on the neck block is 2871. I hvae tried to look it up and think it is a 1917. I am looking for correction or confirmation form, you, the real expersts. Thanks.

Well, seeing as how the Mandolin Archive has a 1917 H-2 mandola with SN 32494, I think it's a safe bet yours is 1917 as well.

According to Spann's Guide to Gibson, the factory order stamp comforms to 1914 and the serial number corresponds to 1915.

Spann's work replaced the older serial number tables that had been in use for decades.

That's because Spann was able to access some factory records that were not available when most of the instruments were entered into the archive. Some of the archive listings have been updated, some have not.

The archive has an entry with that FON, again an H2 mandola, SN 27735, with a shipping date of 1915. My H-2 mandola, SN 27723, I was told at purchase, is a 1916. Mysterious ...
