Kudos to Mid-Missouri (Big Muddy) EM8
Kudos to Mike Dulak's Em8 solid body builds. It is evident from this thread on the Cafe that electrics don't get a lot of love here. I don't know how many solid bodies Mike built but he did tell me mine was the last. I have to say it plays very easily and when playing amongst other players and mic'd where the tonal qualities of my other mandolins get lost anyways, the solid body is oh so convenient. An added bonus is that I'm never fighting feedback.
I prefer the 8 string as I play it the same way as I do my acoustics, tremolo, e.t.c. and to my ears it sounds like a mandolin rather than an electric guitar I hear with 4 and 5 stringers.
I'm not certain why Mike has chosen to not build any more solid bodies as I didn't ask why, but it must have something to do with the lack of love I perceive for electrics.
Will it replace my acoustics? Never, but it has it's place where it shines.
