I once owned a bass with a wenge neck (it was amazing) but hadn't thought of it as a tone wood. Sounds great!

I have used this combination on several Celtic mandolins, and it works very well. Wenge is a somewhat overlooked tonewood, but it is very dense and projects well, plus offering above average bass response.
That said, I think Nigel could make an outstanding instrument out of ANY kind of wood.
