    Default RIP Jerry Lee Lewis

Forgive me if this is posted elsewhere and no particular mandolin content, but Jerry Lee Lewis passed away on Friday, October 28, 2022. One of the all-time greats, IMHO.

Sad to see the great rocker go. He must have had a strong constitution!

Robert Johnson's mother, describing blues musicians:
"I never did have no trouble with him until he got big enough to be round with bigger boys and off from home. Then he used to follow all these harp blowers, mandoleen (sic) and guitar players."

He was one of the greatest of the greats. And yeah, there's lots of live footage on Youtube from over the years from 1957 to a few months ago. Among other things, you can see him jamming with Fats Domino and Ray Charles!

The last of an era. I was a big fan, and I probably still have one or two of his old Sun singles— wish I had a way to play them now!

    RIP, Jerry.

Touch the music put there by the summer sun and wind
The rhythms of the rain, locked within the rings
And let your fingers find The Music in the Wood."

My favorite Jerry Lee line was on his version of Early Morning Rain, on the London Sessions album IIRC. He's ad libbed a line after singing about those big 747s-

"Honey, I'm the Killer, but I sure do dread those mother-humpin' planes."

I think of that every time I go to the airport.
