Default Interesting early Flatiron on Reverb

Hi all, this showed up in my Reverb feed:

    https://reverb.com/item/62869016-fla...-1980-sunburst

I've never seen a Flatiron pancake mandolin have F holes like that. It's missing a Flatiron logo on the headstock but the shape of the headstock seems like other early Flatiron flattops I've seen. I used to own a flattop Flatiron way back in the 80's but then upgraded to an 80's A5-1 which I still have.

The owner posted a video in which he shows of another early Flatiron flattop with F holes which does have the Flatiron logo. What's interesting is that to me, the shape isn't quite the same as the round sound hole pancake models, it's a little more oval shaped, near as I can tell.

I've been a Flatiron aficionado for what, almost 40 years now? and never knew about these.

There was one on eBay that sold recently. They seem to be rare. Have seen the catalog showing them, but never one in person.

There is a long running thread, maybe the longest running thread on the Mandolin Cafe about these Flatiron Pancake Mandolins. It’s many pages long but there are pics of these Flatirons with the F holes. Pretty uncommon for sure.
