    Default Ouch! Mandolintab.net is unauthorised?

Just got a strange result: ‘Unauthorised’, and being the freedom-loving soul that I am, it always raises red flags.

Checked using different platforms. All on Safari IOS, cleared out cookies, used various abc tune examples, hid my ip address etc. but I get the same result.

Can someone please check to see if our usually brilliant abc converter is healthy and running?

Not sure what I expected, but it opened fine for me. IPad. Safari.

Thanks Mike, I wondered whether the banner ad had anything to do with it. Maybe they need funding. I don’t know.
    Have a nice day!

Same here, using Chrome on an old desktop. As others said, it was working a couple days ago. Sigh.

Yes, I know there are other ways to convert abc, but I don't want to spend the time learning new programs and workarounds to do it.

Yes seeing the same here on a Mac running both Firefox and Chrome.

Anyone have contact info for Simon Becker to let him know about the issue? I really hope it can be fixed, such a great resource.

An alternative while the site appears to be down is folktab.com

In my opinion the output is not quite so readable and certainly not as compact as that at mandolintab.net, but it’s a useful port in a storm…

    I’ve also used:

    https://www.abcjs.net/abcjs-editor.html

    and

    https://editor.drawthedots.com/

but really prefer the mandolincafe converter here since it can generate full multi-page tunebooks from very large sets of .abc files.

Worked fine for me but I have never found that site particularly useful.

Did you actually try to convert some ABC? The issue doesn't occur until you try to do a conversion of ABC to notation.

It's absolutely failing for me with "unauthorized" on Safari when I try to do an ABC conversion.

I wonder whether the servers doing the grunt for that function used root certificates from TrustCor, that's been splatted by Mozilla and Microsoft.
So I suppose if the server doing the converting was using root certs from TrustCor it could be blocked by the web hosting site.
Website would work, but not the plugins etc?
Someone with a bit more boffinry might be able to tell.

There's nothing interesting in the developer's console or network traffic monitor in Chrome... My guess something's gone awry on the server side (it is a PHP server-side application).

my guess is there were some changes and the resulting files were not given proper permissions on the server
    (accessible only by root)

Another thing I love about mandolintab.net is that the PDFs are really clear and precise, and you don’t spend time with individual small details.
It’s basic, you just paste the .abc and get the PDF.
    It’s like a public service.

I can get to the site, but when I click anything other than Random Tune nothing happens.
Eastman MD-514 (F body, Sitka & maple, oval hole)
    Klos Carbon Fiber (on order)

And still saving my nickels & dimes & bottle caps & breakfast cereal box tops for my lifetime mandolin.

Microslop haven't released a fix for their November whoopsdate yet so if the server behind the widget on the page is SQL on Windoze it probably won't fix until they do

What makes you think the server runs on a MS server?
Most web servers use the more reliable UNIX system (or one of its linux or BSD variants)...
