Most web servers use the more reliable UNIX system (or one of its linux or BSD variants)...
Are the Unix systems known to have problems at the same time as this issue?
As the site is hosted at Bluehost & they say they offer MySQL database hosting it's a logical assumption to make that the servers might be running on a MS server if there's a known MS issue with SQL at the moment.

MySQL started as an open source database. It runs on different platforms (linux, BSD, M$...)
As a matter of fact Bluehost features page says it runs a linux operating system.

But I doubt the problem is with SQL. Usually you'd get some SQL error message when that's the case..

I seriously doubt this is related to an update of any kind. It's most likely related to a lack of attention to a log file or database. Does anyone know if the owner of the site is still around?

mandolintab.net has been problematic for me for several years. I haven't tried them recently -- I gave up when the same tune came up every time I searched for anything. That tune was "Bang Your Frog On The Sofa", which I assume was intended to be about some fiddle player tapping out the tempo by whacking his bow on the davenport. Unless he actually had a pet frog, in which case, well, my mind is boggled.

    Same result here.

Regarding HonketyHank's comment about the site being problematic, the converter has been working flawlessly for me for the past three years until this "Unauthorized" issue came up a few days ago. I've converted hundreds of tunes to PDF using the site with no issues.

Same here. Was working quite well. Even was able to transpose some tunes to get them where our band plays them.

The site’s been extremely reliable for me over the years, I’ve converted 2-3000 tunes, that I store as eTAB books.
It’s a great, simple service with an attractive PDF output, I’ve had hardly ever any issues.

I believe it’s the original owner who knows their way around the code. Last time Simon, the present owner replied that he was waiting on the original owner to work on the site. Not sure what they do, maybe they have a backup that they use, I don’t know. The other value I can see of the site is that they must have a huge database of user-corrected TABs. Useful? I don't know.

I have to admit that while the site’s been down I’ve been to https://folktab.com/edit/abc
…printing out Christmas carol ukulele TABs…

Has anyone heard from Simon? The converter is still down and I've not gotten any response from any emails to him.

I posted another comment on thesession.org but noone seems to know, and there’s no banner on the site in way of explanation.
Hope it’s back online before Christmas.

Maybe it actually is up and running, it’s just that most people are unauthorised!

BTW. if you’re using Folktab.com then you can use a single exclamation '!' to define line breaks.
That tidies the PDF up a bit.

I’ve tried other code for example :
    %% Titlefont Noteworthy 12
-that doesn’t seem to do anything.

and I can’t work out how to increase the tab numerals size…
Anyone know of a cheat sheet with code examples?

Try using scale <some_factor> at the top of the abc, preceded by %%, e.g.:

    Code:
    %%scale 1.2
This should increase the font size by 20%

    Thanks, Vonbiber I appreciate it.

    %%scale 0.5
works great for putting a tune all on one line.

Can’t change the font nor font size though. Back to the drawing board.

    Simon,

You can play with these to change the aspect of the text parts.
You should stick to standard fonts such as Times or Helvetica
unless you know a certain font is present on the system.

    Code:
    %%titlefont <font name> <size>
    %%subtitlefont <font name> <size>
    %%composerfont <font name> <size>
    %%gchordfont <font name> <size>
    For instance
    Code:
    %%composerfont 14
    %%titlefont Helvetica 16

Michael Eskin has recently developed a useful abc converter to produce sheet music and tablature for mandolin (and whistle).

You can find the converter here http://michaeleskin.com/abctools/abctools.html

And there's a discussion at thesession.org here. https://thesession.org/discussions/47839 Worthwhile keeping an eye on this session.org discussion to hear from the horse's mouth whether there are any further developments.
