You might just have to just leave it open to the air for a good long time. My SOL case was just a tad musty when I got it. I left it open for a few weeks, and took it outside whenever the weather was conducive (summertime in New England). It's pretty much fine now, two years later.

I just treated a case with my cpap cleaning machine. It puts out ozone. I used the CPAP hose and put it inside the case with all the compartments open and put it in a big garbage bag. I ran the machine for two cycles of 30 minutes and it took away all the orders.

In my experience, direct sunlight always works the best over time. But you can help it along! I've had luck with both very smelly cars and very smelly cases using Ozium - both the canister and the spray.

On a very persistent Harmony H-162 000 guitar that may have been used as an ashtray, I also sprayed it inside the sound hole - 2 sprays. I covered the sound hole for a few hours and the smell was gone. It was desperation, I had left the guitar in sunlight, removed the back (for repairs) and aired it out for months, and nothing would kill the smell. Ozium took care of it. I would not do this on a valuable instrument, but the guitar is now playable.

Idk i this might help anyone -- and full disclosure, the verdict isn't in yet -- but I bought a uke on Reverb that arrived smelling of cigarette smoke.

I ended up filling a D'Addario small instrument humidifier with baking soda up to the holes, closing it up, and putting a rubber band around it. Dropped it into the sound hole, the rubberband keeps it suspended. Then put the uke in a plastic bag, squeezed out as much air as I could, and sealed it with a twist tie.

Crossing fingers. This would work with coffee grounds as well I would think. Larger humidifier would likely work better but I used what was on hand.Click image for larger version.

Charcoal and newspaper works well for this too.

Good idea re charcoal -- I may switch to that if the baking soda doesn't work. Or add it as a secondary. I haven't opened up the plastic bag yet to see how it's doing.

We don't get newspapers anymore (read them online)
