Looks like he has a friend, Robert, with several vintage guitars. That '65 Brazilian D28 for $1000 is tempting.
For $1600 US he could get a swell Eastman. Not the 900 series mind you but a very nice 800 like my 814. Maybe I'll offer to trade him... not.

That's a great question. Well I got this bridge from a little old lady in Pasedena who would only use it on the weekends.
As you can clearly see, she took great care of it.

Gee, do you suppose the real owner should contact the authorities? #It sounds just like the description at the mandolin archives, along with the photo. #The last I heard, #the owner wasn't planning to part with it, but maybe that $700 profit was too much to resist.
I emailed and simply asked the seller if he could guarantee authenticity. He replied, saying yes, it is for real. He is in Milan, Italy but asking $1650 Canadian. He offered to send more pictures. He gave me his name and offered to ship DHL.
I know this all sounds crazy. I'm just wondering if Darryl can tell us if the real mando with this number would be in Italy. Go ahead and laugh. I'm just asking.

Yes, he can send more pictures, taken from the mandolinarchives site, just like the one he had posted, along with the description. I guess he wasn't lying when he said it was real; it just isn't his, and the owner says it isn't for sale. The owner said it felt a bit like finding your home broken into when he read the ad for its sale on the net.
Hmm. I've toyed with the idea of some kind of verification page for these things. I trust in this kind of case it's pretty obvious what is going on though.

I've played and owned some '65 D-28's that will kick most other instrument's butts, including earlier vintage D-28's.
Judging an instrument sight unseen by the year it was made strikes me as a futile attempt to simplify the complex problem of quantifying quality.
