Default Japanese Kentucky km 1500 /Gibson tuner question

Hey everyone so I have an 80s km 1500, and I put Gibson Grover tuners on it years ago when I got it, now I left the bushings from the original gotohs on it, but being a mandolin weirdo I want to get the small bushings for it, has anyone switched bushings on theirs? What I really want is a set of the older waverlys ( before they changed the gear) but that’s neither here nor there. I’ve never posted a thread so I’ll try to upload photos but I’m doing this from my iPhone so I don’t know if I can. These Japanese 1500s and Dawgs are special and I’ve played mine next to a lot of high end mandolins and it holds up fine! Also dawg still plays his live every once in awhile which is rad! Thanks!

You might want to order 20s style bushings from StewMac: https://www.stewmac.com/parts-and-ha...tuner-bushings

For the original rivet style you'd probably have to reduce the string post borings by plugging the string post holes with wood and redrilling. (Self-made strips of thin brass bent into small secondary bushings also work.) The better choice may be the knurled style, where you probably just have to enlarge the string post borings with a reamer. Your local jeweller should be able to gold plate them. Good luck!

What you put on will be dictated by how large the hole is on the bushing side. My F5G came with Gibson Grovers and I changed the tuners to Waverly's and have thus far never changed the bushings. I agree with Hendrik. I suspect you'll need the width of the knurled tuner bushings and they don't seem to come in gold and they may or may not be able to be plated. I'd call Stewmac to find out if they plan on offering them in gold. First things first, pop out a bushing and measure how large the hole is.

Radical, like "That's Radical Dude!" That can be translated to "That's good!" or "That's bad!" when it means "That's good!".

Yeah that’s gonna be my move when I get some time to take the tuners off, if anything I’ll try to get a set from Dave at Gibson. When I got the tuners originally I sent them buttonless back and Dave put MOP buttons on them. They work great I just really like the look of the old waverlys say 2000-2010 before stew Mac changed the gears. Thanks for all the insight guys!

I have a set of Gibson satin nickel tuners that I’m fixing to put on my 2010 KM 1000.
Also glad to see I’m not the only one putting a Kentucky in a calton case. My 1000 has no problem holding its on.
