So any recomendations for a cheap hard case for an F style mandolin? I dont need anything high end since its mainly for storage when not in use and maybe a jam once or twice a year.

At the top of your range I like this Guardian deluxe case:

For a little less this Crossrock looks good. Basic but I like the brown leather (it also comes in black)

Gator's version of a Travelite (Travelites are hard to find). Usually just under $100

A Gator Journeyman. Kinda vibey and in your price range:

Make sure you figure in shipping. Some folks list a great price and then charge $50 to ship it.
Happy hunting!

I would suggest a Guardian CG-035-MA. It was just about $100 when I bought it on Amazon. Great fit, nicely constructed.
I bought the Gator GC-MANDOLIN case online from the Acoustic Shoppe for $184 all in. I am very happy with it and I would definitely buy it again. You can find it for $150 elsewhere but then you gotta pay tax and shipping.

I bought a Crossrock fiberglass case (out of the OP's budget, I know) with the back pack straps and I really like the case. Well made and fits my Kelley A-5 and my Rigel CT-110 very well. I haven't used the backpack straps yet but do like that feature. Really good quality cases for the $$. Not flight cases like a Calton, mind you, but a definite step up from the usual plywood and plastic cases. My Kelley A-5 (ie, my baby) resides in it now.
OP, I have a Guardian case that my Kelley used to live in and it's also a good case with better padding and fit than several TKLs I've had through the years (it's an A style or I'd be shooting you a pm to work out a deal, lol). I also had an oblong Gator I bought for my first mandolin from Musician's Friend that served me well for a lot of years (and was in basically like new shape when I sold it with a mandolin in a downsize move a few years ago). Travelite's are also good but actually a little bulky, and I don't think the later models offer the same quality materials (especially the zippers) as some older ones I've seen; the Gator version is probably better made presently. Lot's of functional choices out there.

I lied…have a Golden Gate not a Guardian. Really good case for $129.

I would check out the Bobelock cases at violinpros.com over the crossrock, better fit, no extra rolled up socks needed to hold mandolin in place. Comes with straps and case cover if I remember correctly.

Hmmm, must have really jumped in price as a year ago or so they were $186 shipped but then again violinpros had a 15% off coupon if my memory serves me coreectly. I remember calling them to get accurate pricing. You may want to do that also.
I have nothing but the highest praise for the Gator ABS cases. I've had 3 of them for my main-playing F-style mandolin. Two of them gave their lives to successfully protect that mandolin in serious (and stupid) accidents. I'll gladly spend $150 to replace one of these cases after seeing how well they protect, and for that matter, my wife and I are using Gator ABS cases for our other main-playing instruments after seeing how well they protect.
It's sort of the same philosophy as with motorcycle helmets -- the best ones are the ones that you are happy to replace with the exact same kind.

I got this case and I totaly love it. It looks great, feels great and should be sturdy enough to bring it anywhere.
A hardcase will probably bring even more resistance, otherwise I don't plan on letting a horde of elephants walking over my mandolin.
Gator also produces this model with a hard case.

I find them to be high quality and well built.
