Default Calace, "Souvenir de Shanghai": Robert Margo, octave mandolin

This is a performance of Raffaele Calace's "Souvenir de Shanghai, Op. 148," originally for solo liuto cantabile, but performed here on mandola in G (octave mandolin), with a few minor modifications to fit the different instrument. Calace wrote the piece in late February 1925 on his return to Italy (by ship) after an extensive tour of Japan, which included a performance before Prince Regent (and later Emperor) Hirohito. The instrument is by the late Walt Kuhlman.

That's a beautiful piece Robert. The instrument sounds wonderful even at that distance across the room. Thanks.
