    Default Seamus Begley RIP

I'm sorry to hear of the death of the Irish box player and singer Seamus Begley. He was a larger than life character.

I particularly recall seeing him in Poolewe, in the Scottish Highlands with Jim Murray on guitar. He really had a beautiful voice, and he sang some Scottish Gaelic songs that night, which some older people in the audience knew and sang with. I found it very moving. Polkas were mainly his thing on the accordion.

This programme about him gives a good flavour of what he was like.

Terrible sad news indeed. Sharon Shannon posted a clip of herself visiting him in hospital on Jan 2nd and he seemed to be doing well at that time. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
