Default Just had a sort of revelation about Northfield...

So, looking at the Northfield website this morning, fighting (or maybe feeding) a case of MAS, I found myself on the "The Team" section of the site, which I don't think I had done before.

Reading through the CEOs bio (and then the Sales Manager's), I was surprised to see that he was from Rochester NY, and then I took a closer look at the name, which I had glossed over... and, like a flash, "Hey, I know him."

We used to go to school together, our dads' worked together, his dad was my band director in 7th grade, the families used to go over to each other's houses, and go on vacations together.

    Small world.

Probably inappropriate to ask for a discount from somebody that you haven't seen in 30 years, right? Yeah... yeah probably!

Is it a bad idea to reach out to them based upon previous shared experiences? Then drop the M(andolin) bomb?

Friendly email might be forthcoming, along the lines of: "hey, I had no idea you were doing this, how cool! remember that time in the Adirondacks that our parents were telling ghost stories and I couldn't sleep at all that night?"

Sorry, but he would be my new best friend - Christmas cards and all.

Why, because I made a joke about asking for a discount?

Not necessarily but you have no control over what others might say.

Maybe not a discount but he might handpick and recommend one to you that he likes. Or send you a pick box. Usually it is nice to renew old friendships esp if you have a common interest. And since you posted here first you might hear from him before he hears from you.

How cool?! Random reconnections like that are great! I bumped into the son of two of my parents' oldest friends at a national autocross race in Kansas once. We hadn't seen each other since we were kids & had no idea the other was racing. We've both stopped racing at this point but it was fun to catch up & see each other at nationals.

His current gig aside, I know I take every opportunity to connect to someone new through mandolin. It's not like there's a ton of us mandonuts
