Thread: BOSS TU-05 Tuner

    Default BOSS TU-05 Tuner

Motivated by a desire to end battery waste I've acquired a D'Addario 360 and the Boss TU-05.

    The D'Addario isn't very good.

The Boss is a much better tuner: more stable, sensitive and more useable increments.

The Boss is not really bright enough. It would be inadequate for
outdoor daytime use but is o.k. otherwise. Despite its large display
a little hard to read if your eyes ain't good.

My Boss weighs 33G (1.2 oz) and is 1.65" square, very similar to
    a Snark but better built.

None of this is really important, just me fiddling' but I'd like
a more perfect solution than either of these.

Maybe this will be of use to someone, good luck.

I got a Snark rechargeable and while it's "ok" for a guitar (maybe), I find it's much too coarse in its "in tune" display to use for mandolin string pairs. Even with other tuners I still rely on my ears to get pairs sounding "the same" but I've found the Snark to be almost annoying to use. My 2¢, ymmv, et al...

I know the unitune still uses batteries, but I am between 1.5 and 2 years and still on the original battery, I use it multiple times daily. I have several of these and have changed one battery in about 3 years. The snark uses about 4 a year, quite a difference. I also like the accuracy of the unitune.

Thank you pops1, the unitune is almost certainly my next adventure.

That's because the Unitune has an auto-shutoff feature. I'm a big fan of them. I only use my Snark in emergencies.
