Default Carlo Martello Bowl Back- Exquisite

Probably very overpriced but a lovely looking instrument from a maker I had not heard of before now.

    This is a lovely mandolin.

It was up for sale before the holidays, or maybe this ad is still running from then?

I have a fair number of Martello mandolins in my files, each one very different from one another in style and design all with some degree of flourish, this one being the most ornate of them.

Due to this variety-without-apparent-consistent elements and despite the clear and descriptive label, I was left uncertain as whether Martello was indeed the maker or selective reseller with a flourish of his own.

Nick, I'll try to copy your link over to the 'bowlbacks of note thread' and include an image or two and see if it might scare up some folks with more knowledge and or examples of Martello's work.

Mick, that would be great! Thank you.

Edit: I don't know how long it has been up- this is the first listing. I have just received an offer price of £850 which is heading in the right direction but I am not tempted even though it is a good instrument.

Jim, thanks for that. I see it has climbed to £310 already. I think I will stay out as I have too many instruments.

    I think it's a beautiful instrument.

I can't get into the 'moonpie with bite taken' headstock, though.

Soundhole and fretboard inlay are sweet to my eye.

    A photo for posteriority.

Looks like it sold for £630, close to $800USD. Hopefully it is in good playing shape.
