Default How to conserve an internal paperlabel?

Hello. Do you have a tip to straighten and glue back a crumpling label inside a mandolin?
I can probably straighten it by wettng it but is there a glue that will penetrate paper without disturbing the look of the label?

I've heard of people using watered-down hide glue for this, but never done it myself.

Thank you. Maybe that was the original glue. I just tried to spray some water on the label and some it was so stiff and took so long that I suspect there is still some water soluble glue on the label so I dabbed it down with a long cotton swab keeping the paper down while soaking up the water and it looks like it worked. I'm waiting for it to dry now. There is a bit of staining on the white part's but it's 100 years old so.......

Does seeing a paper conservator once on TV make me an expert?
It seems that they have special thin bits of paper, I can't remember the fiber but not wood pulp, and a special paste (a wheat paste IIRC) that they use to conserve old and/or damaged paper. Even if I had the proper materials I'm not sure it's something I would try myself without a little education and training.

The thing is that the paper is very fragile and still partly adhered to the mandolin so you can't put any glue on the backside but for now it's still flat against the mandolin and the staining of the white has subsided somewhat during drying

I think it’s called “Japanese tissue” - or at least it is on this side of the pond!

It has dried and is sticking well. I found a grain of some kind under the label and when removing it, it was very sticky, so there is a lot of glue under the label still.
