I have been trying a bunch of strings on my OM, and thought I'd share this sheet I put together to calculate string tension for you. I've been buying tons of single strings in the gauges I wanted from stringsbymail (NFI) - their prices are lower than the other similar sites.
To use this, you put your instrument's scale length in the yellow cell, frequencies in the blue cells, and paste the unit weight of whatever string you're looking at in the green cell. Then it show the tensions in the gray cells.
All the tensions in this sheet are D'addario, since they're the only ones who publish their data this way. Even if you don't like that brand, I expect the same material/gauge from other manufactures would be pretty close.
I am NOT sure that you can download this file from my google drive, so someone please try it out and tell me if it works. If not, I'll figure out some other way to share it since I can't attach a spreadsheet to a post!
