Thread: Two bar Northfield f5 w/Italian spruce top

Default Two bar Northfield f5 w/Italian spruce top

I'm uncertain why this happens but when my wife/partner/buddy is gone for any period of time MAS creeps up on me. There is no logic and I am so, so happy with my two current F5's.

All of that to say...does anyone have experience with a two bar Northfield F5 w/Italian spruce top?

    * Intervention needed in Portland *

    Thank you.

I actually did this with a car! A friend and I spotted a Citroen 2CV truckette for sale at a show, and jointly bought it. Then he said that I had too many already, so he’d keep the Cit first. Ten years later, after it had rotted into the ground, I took possession.

If Bill already has too many of your covert purchases, I can help with another hideout/safe house.

The way the mandolin soundboard is braced. 2 bar is their more traditional focused bluegrass style while 5 bar has more overtones. To me the difference is subtle but I've only heard them in videos.

It's been a few years since I owned one of each but the 5 bar (to the best of my memory) had more low end. Seems like it was also throwing off more overtones. Kevin thanks for your generous offer

Intervention: recite L-A-W-Y-E-R 25 times. Repeat every hour as necessary until your ever-lovin' returns.

That said, although I'm not married and haven't bought anything for several years, I do find myself looking at 12 string guitars and better-grade Stewart banjos; and I'm curious about Yair Stern's octave mandolins.

But I already have a 12 string, an Octofone, and a good banjo.
My treatment plan is simple. I just wait, and someone else buys, which relieves me of temptation.

    ================================================== =======================

You can do it. A good first step would be to delete the Northfield dealers from your favorites bar.

    You've got it bad.
If you're looking at the one I think you're looking at, you'd better surprise your wife with a very nice gift.

This is my intervention...no new mandolins for me. Lol..I wasn't looking at any particular mandos today but now that you mentioned it rcc56 I better go take a peek just for fun.

*Thanks for the melodic idea DG.

    Here, let me help!
Fortunately for you not springing for the Italian gave you time to snag the Red from TME, and springing for another trip for the wife/partner/buddy! It's a WIN for all parties.
    Any time I can help...

Old Growth, that tune sounds a little too familiar.

Lol..I will need to go back and listen to your lovely piece again Don. I listen once and turned on my laptop. You are my songwriting hero! It was offered out of respect and as I recall your piece was much, much better. My bad

So, Old Growth, how does your decision feel 5 days out?
To me, sometimes the 'wanting' is more rewarding than the 'having.'
We should get Don to write a song; Echos of arpeggios of f-holes not taken.
