Thread: 1915 Style B Martin?

    Default 1915 Style B Martin?

This must be an early example. What I don't understand is why it has not been set up to play. Fear not though, as it has been appraised by Dr Lori! Okay, that probably means we don't have to look up the serial number to find the date! Clearly, has lived a bit during its life.

Yeah the hole-in-the-headstock is broken off. Untouched and unrepaired. Oh well.

" Dr Lori" has been mentioned here before, demonstrating her vast ignorance of the values of vintage musical instruments.

I think Martin referred to that as the "McGruff" model headstock, Jim.

Not the best looking back on a Martin that I've seen.

Nick...here's a few images for posteriority.

Thanks, Mick. I think the seller being wedded to originality in not putting on a new set of strings and finding out more about its value as a musical instrument is misguided!

The four piece back is a curiosity, as well.

Someone with some wood carving skills could readily repair / replace the headstock pediment.

But not at the current price.

The Martin B I owned was a very nice instrument. One that got away.

"The tailpiece is original with Mother of Pearl inlays."

We don't get a decent photo of this- the edge of the cloud shape may have enamel inlaid but mother of pearl would be interesting.
