Default Dix Bruce - Rest in Peace

I am a huge fan of Dix Bruce's. I was enjoying this album Take just posted: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J9lx-0wsrOs
and let Take know in the comments how much I enjoyed Dix's music and wealth of instructional materials. Take replied and informed me that Dix had passed away recently. I did some google searches but could find no confirmation. Do the knowledgable mandolin cafe residents know anything about this? I didn't want to spread inaccurate news but also wanted to acknowledge Dix's amazing legacy, from taking over Mandolin World News in the early 80's to all his great books. Thanks for any info y'all can provide.
    Regards,
    Max

Had not heard that. Truly a great man, musician and contributor to the acoustic music world. Bill Evans, who we greatly respect, posted confirmation on his Facebook page. Rest in peace, Dix.

So sad to hear. Dix was a gentleman in every sense of the word. He will be missed.
    RIP Dix.

I never met the man, but always had great interactions with him via email - purchased several books and the reprints of Mandolin World News from him. RIP and condolences to his friends and family.

RIP Dix Bruce. Years ago when he was working on his Parking Lot Picker's Songbook (Dobro edition) he came to a Dobro Club meeting we had and took a bunch of photos of us. He was a really nice guy and definitely knew his way around the mandolin.

My condolences to his friends and family.

In the early 2000s I had a private jam session with Dix at Camp Bluegrass while waiting for a shuttle to pick him up. He was a great guy, and didn't mention how badly I was embarrassing myself! LOL. I had a few other long distance interactions with him, always a gentleman. RIP Dix!

Oh no! I just had an extended email communication with him after I ordered a Mandolin World News t-shirt from him just a month ago. I mentioned an event I attended where I was a guest of Tiny Moore and Dix said he had a recording of that show and recalled that Tiny mentioned my band's name over the mic, between songs...said he was going to find it and make me a copy. He seemed a decent and generous human. So sad to hear of his passing.

Some years ago I emailed him about the lyrics of a song of his that I wanted to cover. He kindly replied with the correct words and expressed his wish that I'd make money with the song, cause he hadn't. So gracious, warm and funny.

Truly knowledgable, personable, funny, always ready to share and encourage, great player, singer, writer, photographer, author and gentleman.

My almost 40 year friendship with Dix happened mostly on the phone. I was a columnist for Mandolin World News, Dix was the editor. suffice to say I learned a lot and there were a lot of laughs.

Sending sympathy and love to family, friends and colleagues of Dix Bruce. Praying for peace and comfort in the coming days.

I had lunch with him a couple times in the early 2000’s at camp Bluegrass in Levelland, Texas. What a nice guy and a wealth of information not only about music but music history. Told me a couple really interesting stories about Merle Watson and also Buck Owens. So enthusiastic.

A few days ago Darol Anger posted his demise but I couldn't believe having just heard from Dix a couple of days before. I have no details but I am saddened to hear he has passed. He was an early fan of Rudy Cipolla. His MWN catalogued those early decades when Rudy, Grisman, Grapelli et al were experimenting with the whole scene. RIP and thank you for the heroic work you performed.

So sad and shocked to hear. We only met once in person, when we hung out and jammed at his home in 1989. Top hole guy. He will be missed.

Strange coincidence, I just ordered two of his books from Mel Bay the day before yesterday. RIP, Mr. Bruce.

It’s been more than a few years since I had contact with Dix but originally met him back in the days of Mandolin World News. He’s just always been there and now his passing will leave a big gap. Rest easy Dix.

I always loved his regular features in the long-defunct Mandolin Magazine. I always learned something. RIP, Dix.

I was shocked and saddened to hear this news. Dix was a true champion of the Mandolin World and an incredibly talented musician, teacher and writer. He has left us too soon. Rest in peace dear friend.

Saddened to hear this tragic news. Back in the early 80’s when snail mail and paper checks were the normal way to pay, I sent Dix a payment for my Mandolin World News subscription. He wrote back that he was born in my hometown (Traverse City, Michigan), at Munson Hospital. Since then, although we never met, I always felt like we had a connection. My condolences to his family and friends, Rest In Peace..
