The boss has fallen in love with Sarah Jarosz and likes the sound of an octave mando. Anyone own an Eastman octo? How you like it?

Any other options in the sub $2500 range, other than TC or GT?

    How 'bout the MDO305?

Are the Eastmans that much better than Gold Tone or Trinity College?

There are three or four non-Eastman or Gold Tone options ~2500 in the classifieds right now. One is about $200 above your stated price. BTW, you might have better luck posting your query in the CBOM section.

Yair Stern octave's have been discussed and are in your price range:

Octolindos come in a wide variety of configurations. The Mandolin Store often has used models at good prices

This Jones Flat top oval hole will have a different voice but looks nice in your price range:

This fellow like to take old Jackson Guldan guitars and convert them into octaves. He seems to make a few.

I went to Carter's and played every octave mandolin they had (several). Nothing hit my ear in a positive fashion until I crossed the $7000 price mark (and thus, went home without one). I bought and rejected a Gold Tone flat top. I got a very good deal on a Lafferty F-style/F-hole octave that was very well constructed, and seemed very promising. I went through all sorts of set-up rigamarole thinking I could find wring some enjoyable tone out of it...to no avail. I have pretty much given up on an instrument that would be a secondary gigging instrument (at best), until my next financial windfall (in which case I would pursue something like this: https://www.mandolincafe.com/ads/199221#199221!

That's kinda disappointing to read. I guess it then makes sense to go with the most inexpensive yet solid build. I have read a couple places that the 305 is noticeably louder than the 605, anyway.
