Bert Bassett (1894-1937): L'Automne - Gavotte (con tenerezza)
The wonderfully-named Bert Bassett was a banjo virtuoso and the editor of the BMG ("Banjo Mandolin Guitar") Magazine from 1933 to his early death from tuberculosis in 1937. No relation to Bertie Bassett, the mascot of Bassetts Liquorice Allsorts:
This gavotte may have been written originally for banjo, but was included in the 1975 book "A Variety Of Mandolin Music" (a compilation of pieces previously published in the BMG Magazine) as an unaccompanied mandolin solo. There may originally have been an accompaniment on either piano or guitar as the attached 1975 score starts with four bars rest, but if so it has not survived and is also not needed. As Bassett died more than 70 years ago, the piece is out of copyright at least in the UK and EU.
