Smile Leo Lindblom's brand new Silverangel mandolin - by Ken Ratcliff

As many of you know, there was a post on the cafe recently that Ken Ratcliff was giving away one of his handmade Silverangel mandolins to a young mandolin picker and he asked me to share a clip of my little brother Leo Lindblom (8 years old) who was chosen to be the recipient of this amazing instrument! THANK YOU!!

Here's a video of Leo playing "Gold Rush" on his brand new Silverangel mandolin built by Ken Ratcliff in Kentucky. Ken has been building mandolins since 1981 and this mandolin is one of his special distressed models - Leo is so excited and thankful to have this new instrument! That is great! Thanks to Ken for creating a legacy to take the mandolin into the future. I hope I am around in 20 years to hear or see this kid playing his SilverAngel!

How wonderful that your brother's impressive talent is being nurtured by such a cool instrument

I told Lucy on David's message board how the old men are jealous of Leo's stunning ability. So thanks to Lucy for letting us in on their family treasure [i.e., Leo] and to Ken for donating the instrument. I feel fortunate just to know this is all going on.

Ken has done an amazingly generous thing, really inspiring!—and Leo seems like he’s the perfect recipient. The world is already a better place.

I don't think you'll have to wait that long, as good as he is now it will only be a few years and WOW!

Awesome story, and, Leo, you're a great picker already! Keep at it, and enjoy that Silverangel! Thanks to Ken for doing this, as well!

I have been wondering if Ken had chosen a worthy young picker and indeed he has!
Lucy, I know that you are part of a very musical family, are you Leo's main teacher?

I will enjoy seeing how he grows into the music.

Good thing there was no height restriction as that mandolin is about a big a Leo. Awesome gesture by Ken and his Silverangel mandolins. This will be something Leo will remember forever.
