Default Isaac Eicher teaches gypsy jazz

I haven't found much available for learning gypsy jazz mandolin so I was delighted to discover Isaac Eicher has just had a set of courses released on Denis Chang’s DCMusic site. Isaac focuses on gypsy jazz repertoire over four series of lessons and there’s a lot in there for jazz players of other areas also.

Joe Walsh has a course on Peghead Nation. It was advertised on the Cafe.

Still probably the best free gypsy jazz resource:
    D'jango Fakebook

A free pdf download of around 200 swing and gypsy jazz tunes.

And Matt Flinner has taught the occasional Gypsy Swing class, in amongst his myriad Bluegrass and Fiddle tune classes.

Transcriptions of both Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli solos are good introductions to gypsy jazz phrasing that can be attempted on the mandolin. Heavy emphasis on the word "attempted".

One of my favorite songs to play is "Night in Paris", a Gypsy style tune written by Isaac's father Shelby Eicher. Just studying the chord choices is a lesson in gypsy jazz/swing.

I downloaded this several years ago and have worked up a few tunes. The problem for me is finding a guitarist who wants to learn and perform this style of music with me. I found a bass player who is keen on the style, but no guitarist.

    Where are you located?
All my life I wanted to be somebody, now I realize I should have been more specific.

Thanks James - I hadn't come across Shelby Eicher before.
Nice to discover their Mischievous Swing album.

I recently moved to an Upper Midwest metro area. Before that I was in a smaller city. I have a brother next door who plays guitar, but he isn't into learning to play the Django style rhythm.

That's a shame, since without "la pompe", there is no Gypsy jazz.
